Madurankuliya attack weapons found

The weapons believed to have been used in the shoot-out last month in Madurankuliya on a group of UPFA supporters, where one person was killed and 10 others injured, was recovered by intelligence officers of the Puttalam Police Division today.

Police officers searching areas adjacent to the Madurankuliya lagoon had found one 12 round weapon, 2 rounds of live ammunition, 54 bullets used in a T-56 gun and 2 magazines.

The weapons were believed to have been used in the shooting that took place on the 16 of January, targeting a United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) rally that was held before the presidential elections.

Meanwhile three suspects had been arrested in connection with the shoot-out and produced before the Puttalam Court, and further remanded until the 17th of next month.
