Popular singer Madumadhawa Aravinda, the member of the Colombo Municipal Council (JHU) had resigned from his post a short while ago during the CMC budget debate session, sources said.

In a statement prior to his resignation from the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), Mr. Aravinda who is also a popular actor said the political hierarchy was such that senior politicians were using village level leaders as their pawns.

“The seniors use village and provincial level political leaders as their pawns. The political system does not permit or give a chance for any urban level leader to rise up. They are not turned into future leaders but are used as pawns by national level leaders to further their political agendas,” he said.  “The village level leaders are used as slaves and servants. I urge them not to continue working in this way. There should be a complete change in their attitude.”
Quoting from the letter written by Abraham Lincoln to his son’s teacher, Mr. Aravinda asked which politician had taught their juniors the virtues of defeat.

“They are instead taught to win by any means. They are only taught to assault, kill or use underhand tactics to achieve their ends. I ask you whether any senior has mentored the juniors to believe that defeat is also a kind of victory,” he asked. “Now the question is who should be politicians? Today anyone who wants to make money wants to become a politician. This attitude must change. People should know that good, honest people also come into politics.”
