An LTTE member who was imprisoned after being found guilty of killing 10 persons at Radella in Pottuvil some years ago had escaped this evening, police said.

He had asked for permission to use the toilet while he was in the Pottuvil Court premises and then managed to escape from the toilet.

The escapee is Mahendra Rajah Shashidharan alias Cristy. He had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in November 2011 and jailed at the Batticaloa Prison.

Action is being taken by the police and the prison officers to apprehend the suspect. (Wasantha Chandrapala)
