Suspected pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) elements blasted railway tracks at Perani railway station in Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu early this morning.

However, the passengers of the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai Rockfort Express escaped unhurt when the explosion took place at 2:10 am blowing off about three feet of tracks.

The driver, who received a warning from the station master, applied emergency brakes averting what could have been a major disaster.

Quoting police and railway sources, media reports state that pamphlets condemning the visit of Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa were recovered from the spot.

The explosion has disrupted train traffic on the route and majority of the trains coming to Chennai have been either cancelled or diverted. (OneIndia News)
