“I did not know that the man who assaulted me is a minister’s son. On Friday (31), I and my girlfriend Belinda went to the R&B night club for a Halloween party. Suddenly a man came up to us and started harassing Belinda. I tried to protect her from him when about seven men came walked up to us and began assaulting me,” Mr. Casserly, an engineer currently residing in Sri Lanka, said

He said none of those present in the nightclub came to their assistance.

“I was covering my head. Then Belinda came held on to me. Then they assaulted her as well. She too was injured,” Mr. Casserly said.

Mr. Casserly and Belinda Mackenzie showed us their bruises. They said after the brawl they went to the police station but did not go to a hospital as they were scared.

He said he was suffering from blurred vision and was worried it would affect his profession as an engineer and hoped to claim compensation for what happened to him.

“I love to work in Sri Lanka and I love the people. I have been in this country for a year and nothing unpleasant has happened before. But I do not know what may happen now because of my blurred vision. I may be sent back to my country if I am not fit to work. My hopes to settle down in Sri Lanka have also gone to pieces,” Mr. Casserly said. (Chathushika Wijeyesinghe)
