The opposition United National Party (UNP) has warned of legal action against any party member who crosses over to the government in future as they have signed documents saying they will not cross over.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that he has not received any reports of party members planning to join the government but warned anyone doing so will be taken to court.

The UNP says it had obtained written assurances from party members that even if they leave the UNP they will function independently and not join the ruling UPFA government.

There is speculation that at least one Tamil UNP Member of Parliament (MP) is in talks with the government and may cross over in the near future in the event the leadership crisis within the UNP continues. (Daily Mirror online)
