The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) today announced that they have taken legal action against some 1000 traders who sold rice for high prices.

A CAA official told Daily Mirror online that the errant traders were nabbed during raids conducted since February 2011. “We started receiving complaints about rice being sold for high prices. This trend commenced following the floods that affected the Northern part of the country,” he added.

Speaking further the official stated that the number of such errant traders have dropped as a result of their constant raids. “We hope to increase the frequency of the raids and we have also taken steps to deploy mobile raiding units to crack down on such fraudulent vendors,” he added.
