Two Sri Lankan men charged with the murder of an Oxford farmer have been further remanded in custody to June 5 for a scientific report to be completed.

Viraj Alahakoon, 33, and Thuvan Prawesh Sawal, 23, are charged with the murder of Sri Lankan farmer Sameera Chandrasena, 28, and the arson of the house he was living in.

Crown prosecutor Chris Lange told Christchurch District Court Judge Jane Farish today that the remand was for an Environmental Science and Research report to be finished before formal written statements were available.

The charges allege both offences were committed on or about February 23 and the murder occurred at Oxford, where the victim was found in his burnt-out house. (Source: stuff.co.nz)
