A Sri Lankan national and two others have been jailed for three months as they stole a watch worth Dhs15,000 belonging to a hotel client on Dec.10 last year, in Dubai, Gulf Today reported.

The convicts, identified as BC, 34, a Bangladeshi national, NM, 31, a Sri Lankan and MA, 21, an Indian, had on Feb.9 denied the allegations before Judge Jassem Mohamed Al Beloushi.

“However, sufficient evidence was brought to light and the Dubai

Criminal Court has awarded a three-month-jail term to each of the trio,” said Judge Maher Al Mahdi on Thursday. According to prosecution records, they had been working as cleaners at a prominent hotel in Dubai’s Al Rafaa area.

The client, AZ, 50, a Pakistani visitor, had testified that on the day of the incident he spent a night at the hotel but left at around noon the next day.
“I returned to the hotel after remembering that I had forgotten my jacket in the wardrobe,” he said, adding that he had put his watch inside the jacket’s pocket.

When AZ came to the hotel, the hotel staff revealed that they could not find it in the room.
The victim’s Pakistani friend, a fellow visitor, had testified that the watch was a golden John-Isaac, decorated with diamonds.
