Lankan refugees return

About 40 Sri Lankan refugees had returned to the island from Tamil Nadu refugees’ camp in India through Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today, Resettlement Ministry said.

Resettlement Ministry Secretary B M U D Basnayake said that 40 members of the 11 families had retuned to the island from refugees’ camp in India.
They are resettling in their own land in North and East with support of District Secretariats and United Nation’s High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), he said.

The secretary Basnayake said that the UNHCR provided the air ticket to return to Sri Lanka and facilitated documentation issued in consultation with Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in India.

He noted that the government will provide proper shelter, infrastructures, and health, education, welfare and livelihood facilities with assistance of the UN Agencies and other organization in systematic methods. (Rifthi Ali)
