Lankan refugee arrested for murder

A Sri Lankan refugee was arrested  on Thursday for allegedly murdering a 46-year-old woman  at a public toilet in Alandurai in Coimbatore, India, the New Indian Express reported.

According to the report the incident had come to light, when some women found the body of B Kalpana lying in the water tub in the toilet. Alandurai police recovered the body and sent it to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

B Kalpana (46) was residing with her mother R Vijayalakshmi (83) at Alandurai for the past one year. She was married to one Balagovindaraj and the couple were earlier living at Selvapuram. But, the couple separated as Balagovindaran wanted to shift his family to Sathyamangalam. But Kalpana objected to his plan and Balagovindaraj moved to Sathyamangalam along with his two sons, Manikandan (26) and Vignesh (22). So, Kalpana was living with her mother Vijayalakshmi for the past 10 years, the report said.

She had moved to Alandurai last year with her mother.  Recently, her house owner  had thrown her properties out from the house as she did not pay the rent. So she was living on the roadside tree and was using the public toilet. On Thursday, she was found dead in the water tub of the toilet. As her dress was torn, police suspect that she could have been raped by the accused. A Sri Lankan refugee, Udayakumar (26) was arrested on Thursday.

“Udayakumar, a refugee staying in the camp in Boluvampatty, has been arrested. Only after the autopsy report, we would know whether the victim was raped,” said SP K Sudhakar, the New Indian Express report said
