Lankan nabbed in India over scam

A Sri Lankan national who was allegedly in possession of fake credit cards was arrested by the Central Crime Branch police in India.

According to police sources, on a tip-off from a bank official that one Sanjeev Kanth was trying to purchase a laptop and computer accessories by using a fake credit card at a shop in Egmore, a special team of the CCB arrested the accused. He was in possession of three fake credit cards.

A search on his house at Alapakkam revealed 110 fake debit-cum-ATM cards and seven more fake credit cards.

Sanjeev told investigators that he procured information stolen from original credit cards of customers in several countries through agents and embossed the same on empty credit cards.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, a B.Com graduate, operated in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. Sanjeev was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added. (The Hindu)
