Lankan fishermen killed

Two Sri Lankan fishermen who were reportedly fishing in the Somali Sea in a multi-day trawler were killed, while three others were kidnapped and the vessel hijacked by pirates, the Fisheries Ministry reported today.

The bodies of the two Lankan’s killed were reportedly thrown overboard by the pirates. The kidnapped fishermen had notified of their crew members deaths and hijacking of the vessel through radar communication facilities to the Ministry. The five fishermen had set sail on the fourth of January from Mirissa. (Daily Mirror online)
