Lankan athletes to be screened

Sri Lankan sports authorities will screen all sportsmen and women who take part in future international level games for banned drugs.

New Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has decided to subject all participants at a cost of Rs. 22,000 (US $ 200) of per person which will be borne by the Ministry.

Earlier Manju Wanniarachchi, won the Gold Medal for Sri Lanka at the recently-concluded New Delhi Commonwealth Games after a lapse of 72 years in boxing's 56kg bantam-weight category beating Sean McGoldrick of Wales.

Organizers of CWG said that traces of a a banned substance- Nandrolene was found in the second sample taken from the boxing champion.

Test reports and inquiry records have been already forwarded to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Meanwhile Indian media engaged in scathing attacks on the organizers of New Delhi Commonwealth Games over conducting such tests. (Asian Tribune)
