The Sri Lankan government today charged that UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon has violated the UN charter by appointing a special committee to instruct him on the alleged war crimes committed in Sri Lanka.
A senior government Minister said that the appointment of the Advisory Committee to brief the UN Chief on internal matters of a member state was not what founding fathers may have expected from the present administration of the UN.
“President Rajapaksa during his conversation with Mr. Moon has told him in no uncertain terms that Sri Lanka was against the appointment of the Advisory Committee as she has not violated any international or domestic law. However, Sri Lanka would fully corporate if the UN wants further information about the issue,” Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka told reporters today.
He said there was a concerted effort by certain western powers and pro LTTE lobbyists to establish a Transnational State of Eelam by dragging Sri Lanka into the muddle of human rights violations.
