The External Affairs Ministry has urged the Saudi government to conduct an impartial inquiry into the alleged abuse of L.T. Ariyawathie amidst claims that she may have nailed herself.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Kingsley Ranawaka told Daily Mirror online that the External Affairs Ministry was in contact with the Saudi Foreign Ministry and all the necessary medical documents and statements had already been submitted to the Saudi government to begin an investigation.

When questioned about the allegations by a Lankan physician that Ariyawathi maybe suffering from Münchausen syndrome due to which she could have inflicted the damages to herself, Ranwaka said that he could not comment till such time the investigations were concluded. “Nobody can comment on this matter till such time the investigations are completed. The Sri Lankan government is pushing the Saudi government for an inquiry,” Ranawaka said.

Sources from the External Affairs Ministry confirmed that they were in constant contact with the Saudi Foreign Ministry and had handed over all necessary medical documents to them. Sources added that they were waiting for an official response on the investigations from the Saudi government.

Meanwhile Ariyawathie who was just last week released from hospital after undergoing an operation to remove the nails and pins from her body, is back in hospital for a checkup. (Daily Mirror online)
