Landslide risk

National Building Research Organization (NBRO) warned residents of hilly areas to be on the alert as there is a possibility of landslides due to the prevalent monsoon rains.

NBRO Head of Landslide Studies and Services Division R.M.S. Bandara said although a high risk situation has not developed yet, residents of landslide prone areas should be observant.

Since the prevalent inter-monsoon rains are affecting various parts of the country, he said that it has become impossible to point out specific risk locations. “However, as there is more rainfall to the hill country areas including Kandy, Rathnapura and Kegalle the residents of such areas should be on the alert,” Mr. Bandara said.
