Lakshman to replace Fonseka

The Elections Department has gazetted the name of Democratic National Alliance (DNA) member Lakshman Nipunaarachchi as a member of parliament to fill the vacancy created with the imprisonment of DNA leader Sarath Fonseka.

Former Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Nipunaarachchi contested the April 8 general election from the DNA. With 35,852 preferential votes he had obtained the next highest number of preferential votes on the DNA list.
 

Acting Parliament Secretary General had requested Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka to name a person for the seat which had fallen vacant
