Fake romeo arrested

The Maradana Police today arrested a man who had allegedly raped several women and stolen their jewelry after drugging them with high quality sleeping tablets. The police said the suspect had lured the victims by promising them marriage.

According to the Colombo Police Central Intelligence Crimes unit OIC Nishantha Jayawardena, the suspect had first begun affairs with each victim and after promising them marriage had taken the victims into hotel rooms. The suspect had then drugged each victim with 10 high quality sleeping tablets and after the victims fell asleep, he had allegedly raped them and run away with all their jewellery.

Complaints against the suspect by young women have been lodged in Kandy, Kulliyapitya, Mount Lavinia, Matara, Nittambuwa, Kuruwita, Hettiwidiya, Negombo, Fort and Peliyagoda.

The victims who had lodged complaints had been nurses and teachers between the age 35 to 40.

OIC Jayawardena told Daily Mirror online that the suspect was arrested today evening from Nittambuwa and after interrogating him, he had revealed that he had pawned most of the stolen jewellery.

After his arrest, more complaints are being lodged by young women from all parts of the island.

The suspect will be produced before the Maligakanda courts tomorrow. (Daily Mirror online)
