A clash between two UPFA affiliated groups in Kurunegala this evening resulted in the Chairman of the Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) Bandula Pushpakumara suffering serious injuries and being admitted to the Kurunegala hospital for treatment.

The clash had broken out when supporters of former UNP MP Johnston Fernando came across a group of supporters of Mr. Pushpakumara at the Mahawa town while being involved in election campaigning.

Both groups later clashed using poles with Mr. Pushpakumara and his driver being assaulted on the head while a supporter of Johnston Fernando was also seriously injured and rushed to hospital.

Police investigations into the incident are underway. (Daily Mirror online)
