Healthy youth of the North Central Province possessed kidneys which were comparatively small, a study has revealed.
Researchers said that it could be indicative of early stage of kidney disease.

Initial research carried out by the Rajarata University research team on arsenic, revealed that healthy youth between the ages of 15- 30 from the Province had kidneys which were comparatively small.

Speaking to Daily Mirror Dr. Channa Jayasumana a member of the research team said that during an investigation carried out between April and November last year, 138 youth who were not detected with any diseases were found to have kidneys with a bi-polar length of 8-9 cm.

The average size of the bi-polar length in youth in the rest of the country is about 11 cm.

“We didn’t have any indication as to the early stages of the disease that is spreading. In order to find this out we carried this research and it revealed these facts. We believe that the youth are in the preliminary stages of the disease,” he said. (I.H)
