The Attorney General today withdrew two charges including committing grievous injury and causing murder that had been filed against former UPFA MP Chandana Katriarachchi and three others in the Nampamunuwa murder case after they pleaded guilty for one charge of unlawful assembly.

Chandana Kathriarachi and three others had been indicted on three counts of unlawful assembly with the common object to cause injury to a UNP Multi purpose Corporative Election candidate of Nampamunuwa Multi Purpose Cooperative Society, causing injuries to the candidate and causing the death of the candidate’s brother.

When the matter was taken up for inquiry before Colombo High Court Judge Ms. Kumudini Wickramasinge the counsel for the  1, 2, 3 and 5  accused informed court that their clients were willing to plead guilty to the first charge and  Senior State Counsel (SSC) consented to withdraw the other two charges against the  three accused.

Accordingly the High Court reserved its order on sentencing the accused for March 9 and ordered to take the finger prints of the suspects to ascertain whether they had been committed by court previously. The murder took place nearly one and half decades ago. (TFT)
