Karuwalagaswewa PS vice chairman arrested over assault on PC

The Vice chairman of the Karuwalagaswewa Pradeshiya Sabha Chaminda Ruwansiri Perera was arrested last night for allegedly assaulting a Police officer at the 17th Mile Post in Pulliyankulama, the Police said.

The officer, attached to the Saliyawewa police station, was assaulted by a group of 20 people led allegedly by the vice chairman after a tractor which was transporting sand illegally was taken into custody by the Police including the injured Constable.

The group had assaulted the Police officer and fled with the tractor and its driver, the Police said.

The injured officer was admitted to the Nochchiyagama District Hospital.(Jude Samantha)
