Special Commissioner of the now dissolved Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Omar Kamil today hit back at the UNP saying it was the opposition party and not him who was responsible for the corruption within the CMC.

Speaking to Daily Mirror online Kamil said that the UNP had misled the people by urging them to elect the “spectacle” group led by Mohamed Imtiaz to the CMC and this led to a corrupt administration.

Omar Kamil who was the previous Chief City administrator of the now dissolved CMC was responding to a comment made by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake this week who had claimed that Kamil was also a stakeholder of the corruption the CMC faced.

Kamil added that the corruption inquiry by the courts was held for the period of June 2006 to October 2008 and that he was appointed in August of 2009 and therefore there was no basis to blame him. (Daily Mirror online)
