The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court refused bail to the first suspect in the assault of a 21-year -old youth at the Kama- Colombo nightclub, after a motion was filed by the suspect’s lawyers seeking bail a shortwhile ago.

C.R De Silva PC and Shanaka Wanasinghe PC appearing for the suspect submitted that their client be given bail because the offence was a bail-able offence and that the suspect poses no threat to the witnesses of the victim

Nalin Laduwahetty PC appearing for the victim said that the victim was to undergo an eye surgery.

Laduwahetty further informed court that various parties were exerting pressure on the victim and his family and also said that there had been attempts to pressurise the hospital in which the victim was being treated.

Three men were remanded including two bouncers of the Kama-Colombo for allegedly brutally assaulting the 21-year-old youth within and outside the nightclub on early Saturday morning.

The Nightclub did not possess a liquor license at the time of the assault and was functioning illegally on July 5, and July 6.

The Daily Mirror learns that the alleged assault on the youth on July 6, was not the first incident in which the security personnel of Kama- Colombo have unleashed violence on guests  with many reports emerging of assaults on them by the ‘bouncers’  employed by Kama- Colombo.( LS)
