Kalmunai Mayor appointed

The Kalmunai Mayoral dispute had been concluded by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader Rauff Hakeem today, after the appointment of Shiraz Mirashib as Kalmunai Mayor as he got the highest preferential votes at the Kalmunai Municipal Council election.

SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem told Tamil Mirror online today that the SLMC Deputy General Secretary Nizam Karriyaper had been appointed as the Deputy Mayor of the Kalmunai Muncipal Council.

Shiraz Mirashib will be the mayor the first two years and Nizam Karriyaper would be the mayor for next two years, he added.

At the elections held on Saturday October 8, 2011, Shiraz Mirashib got the highest preferential votes (16,457) and Nizam Karriyaper got the second highest preferential votes (13,948), in the Kalmunai Muncipal Council.

Since Tuesday, the people in Sainthamaruthu have requested that the SLMC leadership appoint Shiraz Mirashib as the Mayor of Kalmunai. (Rifthi Ali)
