The general manager of the security firm Rakna Lanka -- Major General Gamini Jayasundera (Rtd) has been removed from his post with immediate effect for giving false evidence during an inquiry held by the Presidential Commission Probing Acts of Serious Fraud and Corruption.

The chairman of the security firm, Victor Samaraweera said the general manager had been removed with immediate effect and this fact had been intimated to the presidential commission.

The chairman had taken this step as the action of Gamini Jayasundera had brought Rakna Lanka into disrepute and placed the firm in a difficult position.

As it had been proved that Mr. Jayasundera had given false evidence during the inquiry, a show cause notice had been served on him as to why he should not be dealt with legally, said Lacille De Silva, the secretary of the presidential commission.

Having considered the points raised by the commission, the services of Mr. Jayasundera (who had been employed on contract basis) was revoked by the chairman of Rakna Lanka. (Manopriya Gunasekera)
