The JVP in a move to take on the government has initiated talks with like minded political parties, civil society organizations and the media, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said.

After the recent arrests of its two MPs, the JVP said today that it would join forces with the democratic forces here and abroad for a broader front to fight against what it termed as the anti-democratic and authoritarian trend of the government.

Mr. Silva said that two MPs Vijitha Herath, Ajith Kumara, and provincial councillor Nalin Hewage were arrested by the Galle police depriving them of their right to hold peaceful demonstrations.
