Parliament would take up an adjournment debate on the 20th Amendment tomorrow and on Wednesday as requested by several parties, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said today.

Mr. Kiriella told the Daily Mirror that the debate would be moved by the United National Party (UNP).

He said many MPs representing different parties in the House, including Dinesh Gunawardane, Tissa Vitharana, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Rauff Hakeem had wanted a two-day adjournment debate on the 20th Amendment.

“These leaders have said such debate is important as their ideologies on the piece of legislation should be heard by the people,” Kiriella said.

However, he said Leader of Opposition Nimal Siripala De Silva and Chief Opposition Whip W. D. J. Seneviratne had objected to this debate. (Yohan Perera)
