A group of United National Party (UNP) parliamentarians were reported to have been attacked by a mob when they visited the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Security Training Institute at Slave Island on a fact finding mission today.

UNP MPs who took part in the fact finding mission were Ravi Karunanayake, R. Yogarajan, Ajith P. Perera and Nalin Bandara Jayamaha.

Mr. Perera said two journalists were injured when stones were hurled at the MPs while they were leaving the premises.

We received information that the Training Institute was being used by the Government for the presidential election campaign. We have also been informed that television sets received from China are being used for the illegal campaigning,” he said.

Mr. Perera said the MPs saw government employees and government property being used to make propaganda material for the election. (Lahiru Pothmulla and Sanath Desmond)
