The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment says it is awaiting a report from the Sri Lankan embassy in Jordon over issues concerning the salary of Sri Lankan maids after Sri Lanka decided to suspend sending maids to the country.

Chairman of the bureau Kinsley Ranawaka told Daily Mirror online if recruitment agencies in Jordan increase the salary of the maids then the Bureau is willing to lift the suspension.

The suspension was placed as agencies in Jordan had refused to increase the salary of a maid to USD 200 even though the bureau had repeatedly made the request for an increase.

“We are waiting for a report from the Sri Lankan embassy in Jordan as they are responsible in negotiating the salary hike with the agencies,” Ranawaka said. (Daily Mirror online)
