JJ, SPC Chief clash over transfer

UNP Parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardane and State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) Chairman Prof. S.D. Jayaratne have locked horns with each other over the transfer of a labourer who is also an activist of the UNP-affiliated Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS).

Dr. Jayawardane who is also the JSS chairman charged that this labourer attached to the SPC had been victimised on false accusations merely because of his connection with the JSS. He said this person had been transferred to Matara from Colombo without a valid reason.

“The person is an ordinary labourer. Also, he is the branch President of the JSS. The SPC chairman has threatened him. He has been asked to resign from the JSS and join the SLFP-led trade union,” the UNP MP said.

Dr. Jayawardane said he contacted Prof. Jayaratne and asked him not to do it.

“I vowed to raise the matter in Parliament. I will also take it up at the consultative committee of the Health Ministry,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)
