JJ off to India on study tour

The main opposition UNP is to study how India is conducting its private medical colleges in order to come up with a specific stand on the issue.

UNP Deputy General Secretary and MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene has left for New Delhi to undertake the study on behalf of the party.

Prior to his departure Dr. Jayawardene said he would deeply look into how the system worked in India and also the role played by the private sector.

He said he would also study how India was maintaining its medical service especially regarding heart surgeries. Dr. Jayawardene said the health sector in India had developed a lot and the subcontinent had become a medical hub today.

He is to meet Indian Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Medical Council Secretary Dr. Ms. Sangeetha Sharma. (Yohan Perera)
