The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has decided to support opposition Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena at the forthcoming Presidential Elections, JHU General Secretary MP Champika Ranawaka announced a short while ago.

Speaking to the media in Colombo, former Minister Ranawaka said the JHU had agreed to form a National Unity Government with the SLFP, UNP, JVP and other parties in Parliament.

“The unity government will not be a Chandrika Kumaratunga or UNP government, but it will consist of all parties,” Ranawaka said. He added: “We would like to invite President Mahinda Rajapaksa to join the National Unity Government to implement the proposed constitutional reforms.”

JHU Leader Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera has signed an MoU supporting Maithripala Sirisena’s candidacy at the upcoming presidential polls.

Speaking at the event Mr. Sirisena said there were no secret pacts and all agreements he had signed were open for public scrutiny.

Claiming that under his government the security forces would be given their due place, Mr. Sirisena said that he would not misuse the services of the forces personnel.(Lahiru Pothmulla)
