Over 80 pedestrians, who ignored the pedestrian crossing and crossed the road from other places, were fined Rs.100 each by the Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate today.

Persons who pleaded guilty to the charge were produced before the Colombo Traffic Court Magistrate Jeyaram Trotsky by the City Traffic Police and Mutwal Police who told court that those accused had ignored the pedestrian crossing and had endangered their lives as well as creating a big problem for vehicular traffic.

The Police suggested that those who violate road rules should have to attend classes on road rules conducted by the police. It is only those who fail to attend those classes that would be charged under the Traffic Act. The Magistrate observed that by producing the perpetrators in court it congested the court room and interfered with other important cases. (TFT)
