‘Jal’ to affect coast

Cyclone ‘Jal’ which had developed over the Bay of Bengal could result in gale force winds and heavy showers in the Northern and Eastern parts of Sri Lanka, the Meteorology Department warned today

A spokesman said the cyclone was expected to head towards Tamil Nadu after moving along the Eastern and Northern coasts of Sri Lanka. The rest of Sri Lanka would also experience intermittent rain accompanied by strong winds due to this.

The depression over the Bay of Bengal had developed some 700 km from Trincomalee and 1,300 km east-southeast of Chennai according to reports received from the Indian Met Department.

It said cyclonic storm would move west-northwestwards to cross Tamil Nadu North and South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Chennai and Ongole by Sunday night sources said.(YP)
