The spate of hot weather experienced in and around Sri Lanka these days is expected to rise in the coming days as the country is expected to come directly under the sun.

A Meteorology Department spokesman said Sri Lanka would directly come under the sun from April 5 to 15 resulting in the heat rising further.  He however said this was a usual phenomenon that took place around April each year.

The highest temperature of 35.8 degrees centigrade was recorded from Ratnapura yesterday while the temperature in Anuradhapura was 32.9 degrees and Colombo around 32 degrees.

The Nuwara Eliya temperature rising to 23 degrees was a significant feature, while it was as high as 26 and 29 degrees in the Badulla and Bandarawela areas respectively.

The temperature in Mattala was said to be 32.2 degrees while the rainfall figure was 60mm yesterday. (Yohan Perera)
