United National Party (UNP) MP and popular actor Ranjan Ramanayake today rejected the allegation that he had made the defamatory phone call to Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage during a TV talk show and said it was a fabrication and a ruse to arrest him.

Mr. Ramanayake told Daily Mirror it was an excuse to take political revenge against opposition politicians and arrest them and said he was prepared to go to Court and prove his innocence if Mr. Aluthgamage filed legal action against him.

Mr. Ramanayake said there were no provisions for anyone to file action against him as there were no defamation laws because they had been scrapped several years ago.

It was earlier reported that investigations carried out by the police had revealed that Mr. Ramanayake’s phone had been used to make the defamatory call to Mr. Aluthgamage during a political talk show telecast by a private TV channel. (Yohan Perera )
