Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation as to why deputy minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama was not arrested following a claim by an individual that he informed the 119 call centre, police said.

Police Chief N.K. Ilangakoon had ordered the SIU to investigate whether the 119 call centre had dispatched the message to responsible officials and if so why he was not arrested by any police station.

Police said if certain officials had overlooked their service, disciplinary action would be taken against them after completing the investigations.

Meanwhile, police has informed the officials at both the Katunayake and Mattala airports to arrest deputy minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama on his arrival.
