The viewers of the TV and the listeners of radio services in Mannar and Thalimannar complained that they were experiencing difficulties in viewing and listening to Lankan services while they could enjoy the Indian TV and FM transmissions.

India broadcasting system uses the CDMA system to broadcast while Sri Lankan stations use the Second generation (2G) gained network facility for broadcasting, TRC Chief Anusha Palpita said.

Since the Indian TV and radio services are broadcasted using the CDMA it has become Sri Lankan TV and radio services are interrupted.
The security units in the area confirmed the interruption of these services.

Very often the inconvenience in enjoying the Sri Lankan TV and FM channels is also experienced by the   recipients of the Vavuniya and Jaffna.

Meanwhile, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) Anusha Palpita said that the disturbance of the television and the radio channels occurred every year between January and May.

“Indian broadcasters are using CDMA network which is an advanced mathematical techniques to allow multiple wireless devices to transmit simultaneously on the same radio frequency to cover a vast area while Sri Lanka is using the Second Generation (2G) with a 900 bandwidth gained network facility for broadcasting which covers a limited area,” he said.

CDMA uses advanced mathematical techniques to allow multiple wireless devices to transmit simultaneously on the same radio frequency. Every device, such as a cell phone, is assigned a unique mathematical signature.

“Under clear weather conditions the disturbance can occur,” Mr. Pelpita further stated. (Chaturanga Pradeep, Romesh Madushanka)
