A woman who had stabbed her newborn child to death within hours of delivery and hid the body in a refrigerator was taken into custody by Sapugaskanda police today.
It is alleged that the woman who complained of a stomachache had gone to the toilet and had delivered the child there. When her husband noticed the blood stains in the refrigerator he had opened it to find a female infant in it and had informed the police about it.
Mother and child were admitted to Ragama hospital where the child was pronounced dead.
The 37 year old woman is a mother of two children and her husband a trishaw driver.
