India will provide assistance to Sri Lanka in training judges under a Memorandum of Understanding that both countries are expected to sign.

The MoU will enable Colombo to send judges to Bangalore and Bhopal to receive training, Sri Lankan Justice Ministry said after a meeting between Justice Minister Athauda Senaviratne and Indian High Commissioner Ashok A Kantha yesterday.

Sri Lanka and India share a legal system based on the Roman Dutch law established by the British colonial rulers who ruled both countries until 1948 and 1947 respectively.
