India's Shree Renuka Sugars Limited is to set up a US$ 220 million sugar refinery plant at the Magam Ruhunupura Mahindaa Rajapaksa Port (MRMRP) in Hambantota, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) said.

The firm yesterday signed a business venture agreement with the SLPA to this end for a term of 25 years.

The initial capacity of this plant is 2000 tons per day and it will be expanded up to 3000 tons per day subsequently. Raw sugar is expected to import by the business venture for refinement at this proposed plant.
