Indian arrested with Cardamom, Tobacco and Hashish

An Indian air passenger who attempted to smuggle Cardamom, Hashish and Tobacco into Sri Lanka was taken into custody this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).

He had 51 kilogrammes of Cardamom, 10 kilogrammes of Tobacco and 150 packets containing Hashish in his possession at the time of the arrest, police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said.

The value of the seized items is yet to be established. He was arrested by the PNB officers at around 4.00am.

The suspect, a resident of Tamil Nadu, had carefully packed the items and hidden them in his travel bags.

The PNB acted on a tip-off received and the evidence was handed over to the Airport Customs for further investigations. (Supun Dias)
