Indian and local arrested with foreign currency

The Airport customs arrested an Indian and a Sri Lankan who attempted to smuggle out foreign currency worth around Rs.7.2 million to Singapore. The detection was made at the Bandaranaike International Airport this ( 20th) morning.
 
They found 33,000 Euros hidden in their checked luggage. Customs believe that many such incidents have been reported throughout the last two to three years. 
 
The duo were arrested when they came to the airport to board a Singapore bound flight which was scheduled to leave at 1.00am today. The two suspects had been involved in the illegal business by pretending and behaving as prominent businessmen.
 
The Indian national had arrived to Sri Lanka on 72 occasions and the Sri Lankan national had visited the country on 13 occasions. The 44 year old Sri Lankan is a resident of Geli Oya. (Supun Dias and Deepa Adikari)
