India plays down docking of Chinese subs in SL

While playing down the issue of the docking of Chinese submarines at Sri Lankan ports, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R K Dhowan said today ‘… that is an issue between the Sri Lankan Navy and the Chinese’, PTI reported.

 

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Dhowan said, “They (the Chinese submarines) are in Sri Lankan waters. They are visiting Sri Lankan ports. That is an issue between the Sri Lankan Navy and the Chinese.” He added that the Chinese had never approached India for any replenishments for its submarines.

 

“It is the responsibility of the Indian Navy to safeguard the maritime interests of the country and we monitor all the activities in the maritime domain in our area of interest,” he said
