India bound Lankans arrested

Sri Lanka Navy had arrested eight persons attempting to get on board a boat with the intention of sailing to India and from there to Australia from the beach in Mannar, a place known as Urumalai.

The group consisted of two males, three females and three children belonging to two families. The suspects have been handed over to the Talaimannar police.

Meanwhile, 53 people who were taken into custody in the Irankaddi coast while allegedly fleeing to Australia a few days ago, violating the Immigration and Emigration regulations were remanded until August 6, by the Trincomalee Magistrate last evening.(SD & AA)
