With the reduction of government taxes levied on international calls by $ 0.02 on phone operators there has been a 30 % increase in international call traffic to Sri Lanka, TRC Director General Anusha Palpita told Daily Mirror online

He added that the price margin between calls taken through Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and phone networks have reduced due to this measure.

Director General Anusha Palpita also added that measures will be taken so that internet providers will register connections providing more than 1mbps bandwidth, which will enable the TRC to curb illegal use of VoIP calls in certain types of networks. He however added that internet users using ADSL connections will not be affected by the future registration measures. (Daily Mirror online)
