Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mahinda Balasuriya has been ordered by the Court to personally investigate the death of an Indian national in Puttalam yesterday. The Indian High Commission has also been ordered to inform the relatives of the victim.

The Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate Ruchira said that the IGP must head an investigation into the mysterious death of the Indian as Chief Inspector attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was allegedly involved.

A CID Chief Inspector and another man were arrested last afternoon after they were seen by villagers dumping a body in the sea at Paliwasalpaduwa in Mundalama, Puttalam. A double cab used for the crime was also seized.

The Mundalama police told Daily Mirror online villagers in the area had alerted the police by dialing 119 after they saw two men dumping a body from a cab into the sea last afternoon. The Mundalama police then followed the double cab and arrested the suspects.
