North Western Provincial Councillor Johann Fernando-the son of Minister Johnston Fernando who came second in the preferential votes list to Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said that he will work with the new CM as President Mahinda Rajapaksa asked all the elected members to work with him.

“President asked us to work with him and we would do anything what the party and the leader asks us to do,” he said.

He said that he congratulated Jayasekara after he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the North Western Provincial Council.

Speaking about the differences with the new Chief Minister he said that he doesn’t have issues as such.

“True that there may be issues at the village level following the elections where our party supporters and property were also attacked and we have told our supporters to keep clam and let the police investigate the matter,” Fernando noted.

“During my campaign the focus was to get rid of promises made by politicians based on caste, class and religion. We did our maximum to stop and change this political culture,” he added.

“I have 134,000 supporters who voted for me at the elections, therefore I have to help them and look after them though there will be limits as I am not a Provincial Minister as well but  I will do what is possible,” he said. (Supun Dias)
